Manchester United 1 – 1 Chelsea, (Man United Win 6 – 5 on Penalties)

The final part of my prophecy has been fulfilled, Manchester United have been crowned champions of Europe by beating Chelsea 6 – 5 on penalties in the Champions League final.

The game made decent viewing for the football fan. It's matches like these that make you happy to be a neutral.

Manchester United's performance was mostly in the first half were they could have seen themselves 3 nil up. Alas both sides could only manage a single goal from their chances. Cristiano Ronaldo showed us that he's just not good with his feet but also his head, and an emotional Frank Lampard equalised close to half time for Chelsea.

In the second half the match was impressively controlled by Chelsea, resulting in numerous chances and 2 hits to the post, including a superb effort by Didier Drogba.

With Chelsea and Man United unable to find that extra goal for a victory in normal time the game was destined for a extra time filled with some entertainment.

Ryan Giggs missed a sitter and Drogba was shown the red card for slapping Nemanja Vidic.

Penalties followed in which the man of the moment, Ronaldo, missed his giving Chelsea the driving seat right up to their final penalty. Unfortunately John Terry slipped and missed Chelsea's final penalty making the game go to sudden death.

Victory was Manchester Uniteds through Edwin van der Sar's save of Nicolas Anelka's penalty.

Both teams filled with emotion, one relief and the other dread, some players of course more than others.
