  1. Manchester United 1 – 1 Chelsea, (Man United Win 6 – 5 on Penalties)

The final part of my prophecy has been fulfilled, Manchester United have been crowned champions of Europe by beating Chelsea 6 – 5 on penalties in the Champions League final.

The game made decent viewing for the football fan. It's matches like these that make you happy to be a neutral.

Manchester United's performance was mostly in the first half were they could have seen themselves 3 nil up. Alas both sides could only manage a single goal from their chances. Cristiano Ronaldo showed us that he's just not good with his feet but also his head, and an emotional Frank Lampard equalised close to half time for Chelsea.

  2. Rangers 0 – 2 Zenit St Petersburg

A well deserved victory from Zenit St Petersburg has given them the UEFA Cup.

Zenit outplayed Rangers much of the match and in the end comfortably beat a quiet Rangers side.

If not for the football, Rangers deserved to get beat simply for the disgusting way their supporters behaving after losing, see BBC report.

  3. Manchester United, Premier League Champions

Manchester United wrapped up the title race away to Wigan by beating them 2 – 0, whilst Chelsea could only get a 1 – 1 draw at home to Bolton.

This brings an end to what has been a fantastic season for Man United. Their defence has been awesome and Cristiano Ronaldo consistently spectacular.

Chelsea will now be hoping to get revenge in the Champions League final, but Manchester United’s current form will take some beating.

  4. Chelsea 3 – 2 Liverpool (4 – 3 aggregate)

The Champions League has once again provided the platform for another great exhibition of the greatest sport on Earth. In a game what promised so much, it supplied almost completely.

The outrageous injury time home goal by John Arne Riise in the first leg gave Chelsea the highly valuable away goal advantage. Prior to kickoff, some would have predicted that Chelsea may play a defensive game, but both teams went on the offensive from kickoff, all the way to the final whistle.

Rafa Benitez’s pre-match public slating of Drogba backfired. Drogba was on fine form with his less admirable side (read: diving) taking a back seat. His first goal was a clinical finish.

  5. Manchester United 1 – 0 Barcelona; Three words: All English Final

It came down to a fellow Oldhamer to provide the goal to clinch a place in the Champions League final for Manchester United. His name is Paul Scholes.

It was another cagey affair, but the fans got behind their team at Old Trafford, providing their help in the intimidation of Barcelona. Barça however, impressively controlled much of football on show, with long stretches of great passing and movement, which at times fully tested the United defence. Lionel Messi was particularly difficult to contain and his movement and flow with the ball was a testament to his skills. His level of ability is sickening considering he’s 20, a full 2 years younger than me and playing to this standard at the absolute highest level. What a great talent he is.

Without Scholes’s wonder strike it’s hard to imagine United finding the back of the net. Nani did have a golden opportunity to make it 2 – 0 with a header which you can only believe Wayne Rooney would have buried it in the back of the net.
