  1. Euro 2008 Final: Germany 0 – 1 Spain

Spain has won Euro 2008 after beating Germany 1 – 0 in the final. The goal came from Fernando Torres and was undoubtedly a great goal.

Germany, like on so many occasions in this tournament looked average. Spain dominated play as they have done so many times this tournament and their tactics of stylish passing football has earned them the European Cup after a wait of 44 years.

My prediction for the final has proven once again to be wrong, like so many times in this tournament. Congratulations to the Spaniards, their victory is well deserved.

  2. Euro 2008 Final: Germany v Spain

The Euro 2008 football tournament is finally wrapping up with the final to be played in Vienna this Sunday.

Spain comfortably beat a disappointing Russia, a team which promised so much but just simply didn’t deliver. Russian team play and energy was non-existent in comparison to their previous two matches against the Netherlands and Sweden. One key reason I believe is because their man of the moment, Andrei Arshavin, wasn’t really involved in the game. On previous matches he was orchestrating the Russian play, this time he was silent.

Spain hasn’t won a major football honour since 1964 when they won the European Cup. Amazingly, this is even further back than England’s victory in the 1966 World Cup.

  3. Euro 2008: Portugal 2 – 3 Germany

The first team through to the semi-final stage of Euro 2008 is Germany after beating Portugal 3 goals to 2 in a dramatic game.

The match was close, but for me Germany edged it with a deserved win. I was rooting for Germany and to say the last 5 minutes were tense would be a huge understatement!

Defensively both teams looked very average. Germany showed weaknesses in the left back position with Philipp Lahm continually providing space for the Portuguese to work in. Portugal however was simply unable to handle set pieces which provided the source for 2 of Germany’s 3 goals, you could say this was because of the height advantage of the Germans, but honestly it just looked like poor defending.

  5. Euro 2008 (UEFA European Football Championship)

The Euro 2008 football tournament is well underway. It started slow, but the past two days has provided us with some fantastic football.

UEFA Euro 2008 LogoThe Netherlands (Holland) / Italy game, in which the Netherlands performed exceptional, especially on the counter attack and earned a well deserved (regardless of the legitimacy of Ruud van Nistelrooy’s opening goal) 3 points from a 3 – 0 victory. Italy didn’t play particularly bad, but what can you do when a team with the ability of the Netherlands’ make the most of their chances?

The victory for the Netherlands puts them in pole position in “The Group of Death”, in which two qualifying spots will be contested by the Netherlands, France, Italy and Romania. This group is a very strong candidate for producing the team which could take the cup.
